CS 371 Blog post 1 SIERRA

My name is Sierra Anderson and a social media platform that I find very interesting is BeReal. BeReal is a social media app where users post 1 unposed and unfiltered picture at a random time every day. This app recently rose to popularity and its users, myself included, look forward to receiving the daily BeReal notification. The purpose of this concept is to encourage social media users to post realistic pictures of their lives in real time. One of the reasons I think this app is so popular is because it is unlike any other social media app on the market. We are so used to seeing those perfectly posed Instagram photos that are often layered with filters or editing and only highlight the fun parts of someone's life. However, for most people, our day-to-day lives do not mirror our social media posts. I think this app has had a positive impact on many users and made people less self-conscious about what they post on social media. I have also noticed that other apps such as Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, are following suit as users are starting to post more casually with a carefree attitude. It is refreshing and comforting to see the realities of people's daily lives as opposed to the inauthenticity that floods the majority of our Instagram feeds.

    Hey Sierra, I'm also an avid BeReal user! I really enjoy the app for the same reasons you mentioned. I think it's really cool that the app aims to normalize the fact that people live normal lives and what we tend to see on social media apps such as Instagram and FaceBook is actually quite fabricated. After reading your post I actually checked to see if I missed the notification for BeReal because I like to be on time as it makes me feel more authentic. Personally, one of my favourite features of the app is that you can go back and look at your calendar and see all the BeReal's you have ever posted, which I find really fascinating.

    Hello Sierra, I am also a member of BeReal. The one thing I love about this app is that it is all your closest friends on your feed. Whereas Instagram, for example, has people you may not be close with, you have this feeling that you need to look your best. BeReal diminishes all of these aspects and brings an authentic vibe, and I love that. I look forward to posting my BeReal every day and continuing to show my true self on the app. Great post!

    Hi Sierra, great post! I surprisingly do not have the BeReal app due to the fact I thought it would be like every other social media app, where people only display their best moments. I like how the app allows one to see a photo without editing or filters, showing their true authentic self, as you have stated. This app allows people to see what you are doing in real time which is very refreshing. I am definitely considering getting the app!

  Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Browne, and I'm a 3rd-year communications student! I love music and think Spotify stands out from every other music platform. I make many playlists and can find different songs with some of the features that Spotify has. Discovery weekly is a Spotify-generated playlist that releases 30 songs every week based on your music taste. Another feature called "go to radio" plays similar songs to the one you're currently playing, and when I'm making my playlists, the "enhanced" feature adds similar ones to your playlist. I find it funny that there's a constant argument between people choosing the two major streaming platforms, Apple Music, versus Spotify. However, because of these features, being able to see friends' listening activity and the app's clean layout, I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. If you like making playlists and finding new music/genres, consider making Spotify your new music platform!
