CS 371: Zach Hatt

        Hello everyone, my name is Zach Hatt, and I am a fourth-year communications student here at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am very into sports, especially football and hockey, so I tend to follow many social media accounts surrounding these interests. My favourite account that I follow is a hockey podcast called “Spittin Chiclets” by Barstool sports, hosted by former NHL players Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette. I actually got to meet Paul Bissonnette and others from the podcast this summer while I was living out in Banff. It was a really cool experience and a highlight of my summer that I will never forget.

        I really find this podcast interesting because they dive deep into the hockey world and discuss many different things about the sport, including trades, different teams’ successes or failures, and bring on famous special guests to discuss interesting stories about their experiences playing hockey. They do all this while being funny by posting memes and/or funny videos of hockey and their podcast is a great way to pass the time. Their social media platforms are hilarious and post updates on what is going on in the league to keep their followers informed. They are on pretty much every platform which includes things like Instagram, Twitter, Spotify, and YouTube. Here is a link to their Instagram and their YouTube channel.     Hey Zack, great post!
    I loved reading your post right off the bat as my two favorite sports are also hockey and football. As a result, I too follow many accounts that help me stay up to date on what's going on in both of their respective sporting worlds. I am super jealous that you got to meet Paul Bissonnette as I am a casual listener of their podcast and think he is hilarious. I think the way they go about their podcast and business as a whole is awesome because they can be serious and invite some cool guests onto their podcast while also keeping it funny and light-hearted. I also would recommend to anyone who shares these interests to check out their Instagram and youtube accounts!

In class, we talked about Baym’s four perspectives on the causal relationship between technology and society, which technological determinism is evident in The Guardian's article discussing Facebook’s Awareness of Instagram’s Harmful Effects on Teenage Girls . Cs 371 - blog post #1 - Kim Browne

  Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Browne, and I'm a 3rd-year communications student! I love music and think Spotify stands out from every other music platform. I make many playlists and can find different songs with some of the features that Spotify has. Discovery weekly is a Spotify-generated playlist that releases 30 songs every week based on your music taste. Another feature called "go to radio" plays similar songs to the one you're currently playing, and when I'm making my playlists, the "enhanced" feature adds similar ones to your playlist. I find it funny that there's a constant argument between people choosing the two major streaming platforms, Apple Music, versus Spotify. However, because of these features, being able to see friends' listening activity and the app's clean layout, I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. If you like making playlists and finding new music/genres, consider making Spotify your new music platform!
