CS371 - Blog Icebreaker
Hi everyone! My name is Gabrielle Craievich and I am a fourth year Communications Studies student specializing in Digital Media with a Digital Design option and a User Experience Design Minor. In short, my interests consist of fashion, sports, food and entertainment. I would say that I am both introverted and extraverted, and am an active social media user that enjoys exploring various applications. The most frequently used applications that I surf daily would be Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. A common attribute that these three applications share that sparks my interest is their short clips or images that can range from a number of topics and categories. While these three applications do have their varying unique entertainment qualities, my favourite platform is TikTok. Based on my algorithm, the content generated is geared towards my interests such as it being relatable, funny, or aesthetically pleasing allowing for an effortless experience. Comparing this platform to Pinterest and Instagram, I would argue that I am drawn most towards TikTok additionally due to its authenticity. I tend to gain inspiration and motivation from TikTok content creators, which includes new recipes, workout exercises, fashion inspirations, organizational methods, etc. For example, watching content creators who portray a “clean girl aesthetic” that essentially promotes one’s version of a healthy and balanced lifestyle sparks my motivation. This includes actively going on walks, building a peaceful morning routine, eating a balanced diet and more. Overall, I would say that even though social media does possess negative qualities, I tend to look at the positive aspects of social media to better myself in a variety of ways and become inspired by others.
This is an example of the “clean girl aesthetic” I mentioned above to show what inspires me on social media.
Hi Gabrielle! I often see these "clean girl" morning routines and aesthetic videos on my feed as well. I think it is interesting when you consider the technical aspects of these videos as there are many little techniques that enhance the impacts they can have. For example, on Tiktok when creators sync the clips to the audio I find it much more entertaining and satisfying to watch. However, in my opinion sometimes being surrounded by the "clean girl aesthetic" can do more harm than good. For me, I notice that when I am constantly viewing influencers portraying their perfectly, healthy and organized daily routines it can make me feel lazy in comparison which only makes me less motivated.
