CS371 Blog Post 1 - Instagram - Lucca Maggiolo

    Hello everyone! My name is Lucca Maggiolo and I am currently a fourth year Communications student with a minor in Leadership. When it comes to picking my favorite online social media platform, I would have to say I enjoy scrolling through Instagram the most. One Instagram page I enjoy scrolling through is called archdigest. I have a passion for interior design and taking note on what I would like my future home to look like.

    As a lot of people lose track of time when they are on the platform Tik Tok, I find myself in this common theme while scrolling through archdigest Instagram page. As many of us know how to navigate Instagram, I enjoy viewing the comments regarding people's input on the designs as it displays what is currently trending or not. I also enjoy using the Instagram feature that allows you to save photos. This comes in hand once I come across a photo of a design that I like so that I can save it and come back to it later. Since I am on this page quite a bit, Instagram displays other interior design pages on my explore page which has also caught my attention.

    Hi Lucca! I too have recently been discovering an interest in interior design, and find myself scrolling through Instagram pages which highlight house décor. Another platform that is really great for getting some inspiration for interior design is Pinterest. If you have not yet checked it out, the basic premise of it is that it is kind of like an online idea book or pin board. You can search up any category of your choosing and find millions of ideas that go along with that area of interest.

    Hi Lucca! Instagram is one of the many platforms I constantly find myself on. I also find an interest in interior design and constantly find that my explore page is filled with different Instagram accounts that surround interior design. Another platform I find that is great for inspirational and aesthetic pictures is VSCO. On VSCO you are able to upload and edit your own pictures, as well as follow your friends or inspirational accounts. There are many aesthetically pleasing interior design accounts on VSCO that you should definitely check out. Additionally you are able to republish images, which is personally my favourite feature!

In class, we talked about Baym’s four perspectives on the causal relationship between technology and society, which technological determinism is evident in The Guardian's article discussing Facebook’s Awareness of Instagram’s Harmful Effects on Teenage Girls .   Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Browne, and I'm a 3rd-year communications student! I love music and think Spotify stands out from every other music platform. I make many playlists and can find different songs with some of the features that Spotify has. Discovery weekly is a Spotify-generated playlist that releases 30 songs every week based on your music taste. Another feature called "go to radio" plays similar songs to the one you're currently playing, and when I'm making my playlists, the "enhanced" feature adds similar ones to your playlist. I find it funny that there's a constant argument between people choosing the two major streaming platforms, Apple Music, versus Spotify. However, because of these features, being able to see friends' listening activity and the app's clean layout, I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. If you like making playlists and finding new music/genres, consider making Spotify your new music platform!
