CS371 Blog Post 1- Sydney Fried
Hi everyone! My name is Sydney. To break the ice, I wanted to share a social media app that I recently downloaded called Goodreads. In a very short amount of time, Goodreads has become one of my favourite apps since I started reading this past summer. I got Goodreads to track the books I am reading and to connect with my friends on the app who also love reading. In addition, the app allows you to view other people's profiles and see what they are currently reading and books they have read in the past.
Goodreads is a handy app that allows you to search any book, read its synopsis, give recommendations based on what you've already read and even see what other people worldwide thought of the book. I found this to be very useful and comforting as a new reader because it allowed me to decide whether I wanted to read a specific book or not based on other users' comments and ratings. On the app, you can add your friends, view what they are reading, or have read and their personal rating of the book out of 5 stars. Another one of my favourite app features is that you can add books to your want-to-read section and what you have read section, which comes up when you click on my profile. For any book lovers, I recommend you to get Goodreads as it's an easy way to keep track of books, share your opinion, and find new books that you may end up loving.
Hi Sydney! I also just started getting into reading over the summer. I started with Colleen Hoover books because that is what was trending all over my Tik Tok at the time. Since then I have downloaded good reads where I have learned about many other authors and discovered tons of good books. One of my favourite books was “The Spanish Love Deception”. I believe this social media app helps so many people especially when you just start reading to find a good book and look at what people like/didn't like about the book before you buy it.

DeleteHi Sydney! I also love Goodreads and have been using it to track my books for over a year now. I love being able to see what my friends are reading and their reviews, and honestly it's become my main resource for finding new books. I also love that they have a "Yearly Reading Challenge" that you set yourself and monitor via the app. It's really helped me stay on track in terms of my reading! Thanks for sharing, I think everyone should use Goodreads!
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney, I enjoyed reading your post and I actually found it very useful, I had never heard of Goodreads before today. When I was much younger, I used to read books frequently. Unfortunately, as I grew up, I grew out of this habit. However, this past summer I had thought to myself on several occasions that I should pick it up as a hobby again. I contemplated going to a book store and picking something out, but I find stores such as Indigo very overwhelming with too many options to choose from. With Goodreads, I can read about what my friends have enjoyed reading lately and maybe I can find a good recommendation there as opposed to tackling the daunting task of searching what seems like hundreds of shelves at Indigo. Thanks for sharing!
