CS371- Blog Post 1- Jennifer Athanasatos
Hi everyone my name is Jennifer Athan. I'm a third-year communications major. I follow many people across multiple social media platforms but I think one account I follow the most right now is Colleen Hoover on Tik Tok. Similar to many people, Colleen's book “It ends with us” was trending all over my Tik Tok page. Because of Tik Tok and all the discussion about this book I was interested to see what it was about so I bought it. Since then I have read many of her books and followed her Tik Tok for new updates. She will post about new books that are coming out specifically “It begins with us” the sequel to “It ends with us” and she also gives updates on the new movie coming out based on this same book. Although a lot of her books came out a long time ago, such as her most trending book “It ends with us” which came out in 2016. I feel like because of Tik Tok trends her books have gotten a lot more attention over this past year. I was never that familiar with her until her books were constantly coming up on my FYP and I decided to hop on the trend by buying them.
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI find it so interesting how Tiktok has found its way to act as a site to not only consume content but to act as a google where people research and find new books. I went to chapters a couple weeks ago and actually saw a book section that said "trending on tiktok". I feel like many authors have stepped away from old methods of promoting their books through book tours or blogs and have stepped into new social media platforms such as Tiktok because of how easy it is to reach audiences.
Hey Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! It is interesting to think that an author is in the print world and online world. I certainly. believe TikTok has been a great asset to the popularity of her book "it ends with us" as it gained a lot of traction on my for you page.
Hey Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI started getting into reading this summer, and the first book I read was “It ends with us” by Colleen Hoover. If it weren’t for the algorithm and popularity that the book got on TikTok, it’s possible that I would have never read the book. It’s incredible how one thing can blow up and gain recognition from one social media app. Since TikTok promoted “it ends with us,” it has even allowed her other books to gain acknowledgment, as I feel like in our age group, she is one of the most known authors at the moment. I have read many of her books and loved all of them. If it weren’t for TikTok, it’s likely that I would have never started reading.
Hi Jennifer! I have also seen Colleen Hoover’s TikTok page while scrolling the app! I love to read, so I joined the bandwagon and read her book, It Ends With Us, because of how much it was raved about by other users. At my local Indigo, there is a display of books called “TikTok Books” — a collection of well-known books that have specifically gained attention from TikTok, in which much Hoover’s work has been included. Colleen Hoover does a great job at using her own personal platform to insert herself in the internet discourse, constantly keeping fans and book-lovers alike engaged. It truly showcases how powerful of a marketing tool social media, TikTok in particular, can be.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer! Once again TikTok found another way to convince me to spend my money. I love reading in the Summer and I could not help myself when I started coming across all these book recommendations, especially the Colleen Hoover novels. I actually ended up realizing that I read one of her books almost four years ago and I only clued in once I saw people talking about Ugly Love on TikTok. Like Avery said in her reply to your post, social media is so powerful in its ability to be used as a marketing tool and this is evident when discussing the rise in popularity of Colleen Hoover novels. Have you read Verity yet? I think it has been my favourite so far, it is a bit different from her usual books and the ending was so unpredictable!
