CS371- Blog Post #1

Hello everyone, my name is Owen Lane and I'm a 4th year communication studies student in my last semester. I am an avid shoe fan and collector, which is why I follow a custom show designer on Instagram by the name of @chefhuyle (https://www.instagram.com/chefhuyle/). This user takes original shoes and puts his own twist on them and then sells them through his account and website. What I find so interesting about this account is that you won't find any other pairs of shoes that are like the ones he customizes; he makes many different colours ways that have unique twists. What really caught my attention to his account were the Jordan 1 Low Fragment which are one of my favourites. Recently he has been working on Nike dunks which have caught my eye. Another thing I love about this account is that he not only posts these shoes but also outfits to wear with them which I find very convenient and interesting. Although while being a broke student, I somehow find a way to feed my addiction for shoes with the help of accounts like this.

  1. Hi Owen,
Nice to meet you! I am also very into shoes. I personally love Jordan 1's and have recently gotten into dunks and others. My brother also is very into New balances recently (990's and 550's). I just took a look at the account you shared and honestly am very intrigued by it. I love the personal touches the artist ads to the shoes and makes them a one of a kind piece. I know you mentioned this in your post, but I agree that it is a great idea that he not only post the shoes, but also post them styled. I know sometimes when buying shoes it is hard to picture what you are able to wear shoes with so posting the shoes styled allows the customers to picture potential outfits.

  2. Hey Owen, great stuff here. I think its amazing that instagram has allowed someone like @chefhuyle to create and establish his own new market within the shoe industry. Building their brand off of the already giant industry of shoes, taking jordans and dunks which have become extremely popular and mainstream, yet he re-invents them and gives them new life. Social media has allowed them to explore their new found market which is amazing to me. Really cool stuff and shows how beneficial social media can be for some creators. Thanks for the post Owen.

  3. Hey Owen, great post. It's cool how much social media plays a part in the custom shoe designer you follow because that is not only his passion but it is how he makes a living. Social media allows for peoples artistic talent to be dispersed to many demographics and followers like you are inspired by them. Students will always find a way to feed their addictions if it is what truly matters to them! Well done.

  4. Hello Owen, I enjoyed your post. I too, am a shoe junkie and love to look at upcoming releases. It is so interesting that we can now see designers promote their work on social media. Before, it would never be an option, and now individuals can create a living off social media and express what they love and who they are through their work. One of my favourite shoes are the Dunks, and I have a light blue pair. I also saw the pink Dunks just released. However, as you stated, I am also on a tight budget as a student, so maybe a Christmas gift! Overall great post, Owen, and I look forward to reading other posts you make.
