CS371: Ice Breaker- Be Real- Abbegayle Zwep
Hi Everyone! My name is Abbegayle Zwep and I am a third-year communication studies major. One app that I enjoy using is Be Real. The app that was originally created in 2020 became popular in the last few months and is built off the idea of being real on social media and not just posting at times you are doing something worthy of posting. The app sends off a notification at a different time every day and as users, you are supposed to post exactly what you are doing at that time. You have a 2-minute window to post your photo or your photo becomes time stamped and says how late you are. The app takes a photo using the front camera and the back camera at the same time, you are unable to upload from your camera roll. Also, you are unable to view others' posts until you post your own and you can see how many retakes a person does on their post. Then you can then react and comment on your friends' posts. The reason I like the app so much is because you get to see the raw post when people are sitting in their room or when people are out living their best life. The idea that every moment is picture-perfect is why I enjoy the app so much. I have attached a link https://loyolaphoenix.com/2022/09/to-bereal-or-not-to-be-real/ if you want to read more about the app.
I look forward to meeting you all and reading all your blogs!
Hey Abbegayle, I enjoyed reading your post. I LOVE be real!!! It is my favourite social media platform currently and it is literally because of what you said. I love how you actually have to be real, you can't upload from your camera roll, or retake photos/ post late without it being shown. Even the reactions to friends posts have to be live which I love. Not only is it fun, and almost like a challenge how everyone waits for that two minute timer everyday to post on time, but it is also pretty wholesome how you take away all of the filters and "picture perfect" moments and just capture a real image in real time. Just like how you said, every moment can be picture perfect with this app which almost feels like a social media reset and I love it.
