CS371 Ice Breaker- BeReal - Victoria Sordi

Hi everyone, my name is Victoria Sordi. I'm a fourth year Sociology major with a minor in Communication Studies. I am an advent user of many social media platforms, however the one I find myself enjoying the most recently is a newer app known as BeReal. I find that on a lot of social media platforms many people filter what they post in order to be "aesthetic," including myself which is why I enjoy using BeReal. On BeReal you get a notification every 24 hours and have two minutes to capture a picture using your front camera, and rear camera of what you are doing in that moment. Personally, I love how people must essentially be real on the platform because they only have two minutes to capture their posts, which leads to them not thinking about the picture looking good or if it is aesthetically pleasing. It is interesting to see what your friends are up to throughout the day, because you realize that no one is ever doing the same thing which adds excitement. Additionally, there is a memory feature which is my favourite part of the platform. I am someone that loves taking pictures and looking back at them for memory purposes. Through the use of BeReal I am able to look back at memories and reminisce those happy moments.

    Hey Victoria! Great post! I love how BeReal allows everyone to share what they are doing at a certain moment in the day. I have especially gained an appreciation for BeReal after going back and looking at all the moments I got to capture each day this summer. It is cool how it gives you the opportunity to look back at everything you did.

    Hello Victoria! I have just recently downloaded the BeReal app after much convincing from my friends. I am happy I listened to them since I find the app very different when compared to other social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. I love how everyone receives the same notification at the same time, encouraging people to post a picture in that given moment. I must say that this has lead to a couple laughs when viewing some of my friends BeReal posts!

    Hey Victoria, I also really enjoy BeReal, I am able to see what friends are doing and I find that it is a much closer group of people than the amount of people who view facebook, instagram stories and posts. I was pretty sceptical of downloading this app, as I did not see the point of it, but I am glad I did, as its fun and a little bit of excitement of getting to see what my closest friends are doing. As well as sharing what I am doing too.

  Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Browne, and I'm a 3rd-year communications student! I love music and think Spotify stands out from every other music platform. I make many playlists and can find different songs with some of the features that Spotify has. Discovery weekly is a Spotify-generated playlist that releases 30 songs every week based on your music taste. Another feature called "go to radio" plays similar songs to the one you're currently playing, and when I'm making my playlists, the "enhanced" feature adds similar ones to your playlist. I find it funny that there's a constant argument between people choosing the two major streaming platforms, Apple Music, versus Spotify. However, because of these features, being able to see friends' listening activity and the app's clean layout, I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. If you like making playlists and finding new music/genres, consider making Spotify your new music platform!
