CS371 Icebreaker
Hi everyone, my name is Thea and I am a third year communications student, with an option in leadership and a minor in Spanish. Social Media is slowly becoming less important in my life, but sometimes I find myself aimlessly scrolling through Instagram. I love how it is not only used for personal and private use, but is also useful for businesses, artists, fan pages, and so on, making it a very diverse platform. If I am being completely honest, the thing I find interesting on Instagram is my art account (https://www.instagram.com/artbytheabia/). What I find so interesting about it is that I am able to share my one of a kind art with the world, allowing me to slowly gain a following of people actually interested in purchasing my art also. Through this page people are able to watch my progress and share their thoughts and views on my art. Soon I will be attaching a website to Instagram where people can purchase my completed art, commissioned pieces, and even ask for tattoo designs. Instagram is such a multi-use and diverse platform, all of its little features add up to provide users with an across media platform, allowing lots of their information to be located on one social media page, ultimately making it easier for a small business to grow.
Hi Thea!
ReplyDeleteI agree that social media and especially Instagram can be used for a platform to grow small businesses and great for people to show their own work. Your art is very detailed and as someone who has a big interest in tattoo's, I think it's cool that you plan to design tattoo's for people as well!
Hi Thea! As you mentioned, I would agree that social media is a great platform to gain attraction for businesses, artists, fan pages, etc. It is a great way to advertize as a cost-efficent price. Additionally, most social media platforms allow for plug-ins of ones business website and/or page which is neat. This summer I worked for a company where I was in charge of their social media marketing. A tool that I found very helpful was Facebooks (Meta) Business Suite where it provided resources to best adhere to the companys specific audience. Ultimately, there are an abundance of resouces currently that make marketing on social media more effective. Since Covid-19 especially, I have seen an abundance of small businesses “blow-up” or “go viral”. I feel as if this shows the power of social media marketing and how impactful social media can be on one’s brand. On the contrary, it sparks the question as to when advertising on social media crosses the line. Recently, I saw a video online stating that advertising has become so intertwined on social media that there are instances where the consumer can not determine that they are being advertised to. When I heard this, it definetly made me feel as if my algorithm is based on being a certain target audience for brands. For example, I find that my TikTok “for you page” is filled with influences promoting brands and products for certain companies that I tend to atleast give in to the click-bait. What is your opinion on this matter? Do you think that social media has transitioned to a platform where consumers are stricly being advertised to, or do you think it is balanced? As a side note, your art is amazing and I wish you the best on your business!
ReplyDeleteHi Thea, I love your art account you are very talented! I also agree that instagram is a great place to share talents and highlights with friends and family. I also see a lot of people starting business accounts to sell art, and other products that they made and I have seen a lot of amazing things being posted and sold. I also enjoy being able to have access to seeing the products of local businesses and being able to support them, when I otherwise would not have ever come across. Do you think that reels on instagram have also benefited your art account? I see a lot of business accounts on the reels portion of instagram and they catch my eye a lot quicker, as you can see the product in use in 90 seconds or less.
