Blog Post #2- Zoe McLaven

BeReal is a recent social media app that has completely transformed how social media operates. It focuses on authenticity and the realm of realness. In contrast, other social media apps, for example, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have become so commercialized that the need for perfection and constant competition is overpowering the true intentions of these apps. Therefore the article "It's a Modern-day Facebook- How BeReal became Gen Z's Favourite app" by Laurie Clarke highlights how the shift from personalized experiences is just as significant to Gen Z (Laurie, 2022). BeReal entails a set of practices every day as each user receives a notification to post their photo, which is then shared with all their friends. This action connects to Slack And Wise in the notion of articulation, as this practice is something all users share with their friends once a day that builds a sense of connection. Everyone can capture their own experiences of what makes up their world by posting what they are doing at a specific time. BeReal was developed to implement a safe space where all users can be their authentic selves without the constant pressure of perfection that most other social media apps have transitioned into.
