In the article written by Torsten Bell titled "
Finally, we have evidence that hell is other people on social media" he examines the way in which social media apps such as Instagram and Facebook impact one's mental health from constant social comparison. It is no doubt that on social media, we try to display our best moments rather than our bad ones. This can affect one's mental health by constantly comparing and altering their image in order to fit into societies ideal image. We can see how this relates to class content through culture by creating a set of beliefs and values which map our social world through social media apps. The ideal image society has created makes one try to distort their own identity in order to embody and appear as someone they are completely not. Social media has made us orient ourselves to fit into the quest of the "good life," which Charles Taylor has stated damages the sense of who we are as people, along with our cultural values.
