With the recent popularity that BeReal has gained over the last few months for being a more authentic app, other popular social media apps such as TikTok and Instagram are updating in order to copy BeReal, as said in the article "BeReal is hotter than TikTok. So TikTok is copying it." These major apps are doing this as they need to remain relevant amongst their consumers. In terms of articulation, there's the physical action of being notified about posting in the moment, finding what you will take a picture of and how you will pose when it comes to taking a photo of yourself. There is than the notion of how the user feels when it comes to being late; maybe the user feels left out because they cannot see what other users are posting. Or on the other hand, maybe they saw the notification, didn't want people to see what they were up to in that moment, so they waited to post. The same could be said of Kayla in the film "Eighth Grade", as she articulates the ways in which she poses for selfies on Snapchat and how she gets ready for her YouTube videos and controls the background of where they are filmed. I know for me, sometimes I'll wait to post my BeReal even if I saw the notification go off if I remember that the last few days my posts have been me in the same spot, even though that defeats the purpose of the app.
Hey!
ReplyDeleteBeReal has become one of the most popular apps. I got the app in May at the start of the summer with excitement to photograph my summer plans. Bereal was made for individuals to be "real," meaning they can't edit their posts or use filters. Even though this is the case, I believe that when people see the notification to be real, many put makeup on and go elsewhere to make it look like they are doing something exciting. I find BeReal a fun app since you never know when it will go off, as it's a surprise every time. For me, there are some days when I post right when I get the notification, and other days I wait since I am just lying in bed or doing something that isn't exciting. Sometimes I even purposely post late. That way, most people have already posted, and I can sit there scrolling through for a few minutes. I find it sad how many of us care so much about what others think, and we are fake on an app that is meant for us to be real. Great post!
Hey,
ReplyDeleteI also love using BeReal everyday and seeing what my friends post! While I try my best to post on time I have occasionally found myself waiting to take the picture if I have something really exciting later in the day, although it defeats the point of the app. It is funny to me how quickly our generation will hop onto a new social media platform and let it consumer us. I really like your use of Kayla as an example with BeReal. I think that if she had the app she would try really hard to make her BeReals exciting everyday, to the point that she would obsess over it. Great post!
