Blog Post #4 - Max Merovitz
Hi everyone,
For this weeks blog post I decided to focus on a top covered in both midterm paper and lecture, how many theorist view verbal dialogue as superior and better than any form of writing. Due to the ability for writing to lose meaning and fail to include any meaning backing the words. Speech is seen as superior due to the ability to contest and question the speech giver allowing for greater learning, meaning and understanding. I personally find this interesting as we encounter this throughout school from early on all the way up to university. Although theories have argued that dialogue is the superior method, we continue to use writing as ways to communicate and demonstrate our understanding. Although this is a societal norm, writing an essay to show our understanding of a certain topic, why do we still learn that this is not an effective way? Should we not be attempting to argue how writing is superior to dialogue why is why we write essays and demonstrate our knowledge how we are. Although this is all confusing and there is no ‘right answer’, I do believe that writing does posses and allow for one to be independent and truly demonstrate ones researching ability and knowledgeability.
