CS371 Introductions (Post 1) - Jake McMorran

Image
Hello everyone and thank you for reading my post today!  My name is Jake McMorran and I am in my fourth year here at Wilfrid Laurier University majoring in Communication Studies. I am also pursuing a minor in User Experience Design. With the combination of these components of my degree, I am hoping to pursue a career in Urban Planning. With a greater understanding of visual communications and a lens of the sociological and psychological affects the physical space has on our minds, I hope to work to develop spaces people can not only experience in a positive manner, but have memories connected to for generations to come. When I'm not pursuing my career, there are many side commitments I enjoy taking part in such as my fraternity Sigma Chi, my relationship, cooking and learning about food around the world, and like many other students my age I very much enjoy spending time engaging in social media through Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Youtube. Since I can remember from my days ear...

CS371 Ice Breaker - Alexandra Remmling

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Alexandra but I go by Lexi for short. I’m currently in my fourth year of Communication studies. I really enjoy traveling and getting to explore new countries and cultures. For the past couple years, I have been watching a Youtube couple named Kara and Nate. They travel all around the world and share their journey with viewers on their Youtube channel. The reason why I enjoy watching their videos is because they not only go on very fancy and lavish trips but they also go on more simple trips to destinations that wouldn’t be considered a top tourist destination. It has definitely given me a greater appreciation of the world and opened my eyes to many unique places there are that I should travel to. One of their most recent trips was a 14 day luxury cruise to the North Pole, which I found very fascinating as they were some of the first people to get to experience such a neat opportunity. I also don’t have the longest attention span when it comes to watching videos...

CS371 - Ice Breaker - irene yang

Image
Hi my name is Irene Yang, I am in my fourth year of communication studies with a minor in User Experience Design. As a social media addict, I do spend quite a lot of time on social media. Here is a list of some of the main social media platforms I like to use: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and BeReal are the main five platforms I keep on switching in between. To be honest, it was really hard for me to choose one necessary platform I use on a daily basis however the one decided to go with is TikTok.  I use social media so extensively on a daily basis that it causes me to sleep later than usual as a result. Because of this, I do fully agree that social media is an addiction. For those of you who are unfamiliar, TikTok is a platform where you can make and share little videos. And those brief videos can become popular and appear on fyp (For You page). From this site, creators like "Charli D'Amelio" have gained fame.  I've personally been enjoying Travel TikTok sinc...

CS371 Icebreaker

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Thea and I am a third year communications student, with an option in leadership and a minor in Spanish. Social Media is slowly becoming less important in my life, but sometimes I find myself aimlessly scrolling through Instagram. I love how it is not only used for personal and private use, but is also useful for businesses, artists, fan pages, and so on, making it a very diverse platform. If I am being completely honest, the thing I find interesting on Instagram is my art account ( https://www.instagram.com/artbytheabia/ ). What I find so interesting about it is that I am able to share my one of a kind art with the world, allowing me to slowly gain a following of people actually interested in purchasing my art also. Through this page people are able to watch my progress and share their thoughts and views on my art. Soon I will be attaching a website to Instagram where people can purchase my completed art, commissioned pieces, and even ask for tattoo designs. Ins...

CS 371 - Ice breaker - Teagan Haggerty

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Teagan Haggerty. I'm a third-year communication studies student minoring in sociology and criminology. I have several hobbies, such as cooking, hanging out with friends, and working out. My social media blog post will be about Bella Anya; she is a social media fitness influencer that has popped up on my TikTok for you page several times and caught my interest as she and I have similar interests, like living an active lifestyle. Bella's TikTok account caught my attention as she posts free workout plans that target specific parts of your body that you want to work on. Her account differs from other fitness influencers as she has free workout plans that can be done at home and in the gym, which benefits me as a student as if I'm unable to go to the gym, I can do a quick 20-minute workout at home. Her account covers several areas of achieving a healthy lifestyle as she provides recipes and reviews fitness products like clothing and pre-workouts to give...

CS371 Ice Breaker Blog Post

Hey everyone! My name is Liam Barwell and I am a fourth-year communications student. I enjoy watching and playing sports with friends (especially hockey) and listening to a wide variety of playlists on Spotify. When it comes to sports, I tend to find myself always staying up to date with what's going on in the sporting world by following a bunch of different Instagram accounts. One Instagram account I follow is the Toronto Sports Network or TSN. This account is great for keeping up to date with a wide variety of sporting news all across the world. Another source of information I look at a lot is the NHL's official Instagram account. This account helps me stay even more up-to-date and further my knowledge of my favorite sport. Staying connected with certain types of social media accounts helps me stay updated and linked with my interests and hobbies and is the exact reason why I love it. https://www.instagram.com/tsn_official/ https://www.instagram.com/nhl/ https://open.spotify....

CS 371: Zach Hatt

Hello everyone, my name is Zach Hatt, and I am a fourth-year communications student here at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am very into sports, especially football and hockey, so I tend to follow many social media accounts surrounding these interests. My favourite account that I follow is a hockey podcast called “Spittin Chiclets” by Barstool sports, hosted by former NHL players Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette. I actually got to meet Paul Bissonnette and others from the podcast this summer while I was living out in Banff. It was a really cool experience and a highlight of my summer that I will never forget.           I really find this podcast interesting because they dive deep into the hockey world and discuss many different things about the sport, including trades, different teams’ successes or failures, and bring on famous special guests to discuss interesting stories about their...

CS371 Icebreaker Blog- Madison Clark

Image
Hi everyone!  My name is Madison Clark (most people refer to me as Maddie) and I am a third-year communication studies student with a minor in user experience design. An app that I have been using and enjoying over the past few months is BeReal. BeReal is a photo-sharing platform that allows users to capture a moment each day and share it with their friends. BeReal also functions on time-specific notifications, meaning that once a new notification is sent to you, you can post your new BeReal for the day. The photo that you post will remain on user feeds up until a new notification is sent the next day. BeReal allows friends to remain connected and stay in the loop of their daily activities. It also alleviates the pressure of having to appear "perfect" and "put together". BeReal is a non-staged app that allows for authentic fun.

CS371 Blog Post 1 - Francis Mainella: Apple Music

Image
Hello everyone, my name is Francis Mainella and I am a third-year Communication Studies student. Something I find quite interesting is the platform, Apple Music. I find this interesting because the platform allows one to search and listen to any song as well as to create playlists that can include your favorite songs. I love how this app allows one to name playlists, add personalized pictures to playlists and even title your playlists. These features have really helped me and my family when using apple music. At first, it was difficult for my family to use the app because we had trouble identifying which playlist belonged to who. However, by using Apple Music’s features, we were able to customize the playlists and organize them in a way that would not cause confusion. Overall, apple music is a great platform and if all the features are used correctly, one can use the app in a flawless and effective manner. Have you had any trouble using Apple Music? If so what was it?    ...

CS371 Blog Post #1: Ice Breaker - Tiffany Chan

Image
Hello everyone, my name is Tiffany Chan and I am a third-year communication studies student with a minor in psychology and ux design. As an avid user of social media, I have used many platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. However, I have been recently finding myself heavily invested in the platform, BeReal ( https://bere.al/en ) as it allows users to capture an image in that specific moment of the day, showing their friends what they are doing and how they are feeling. Every day at a different time, the platform notifies the users and they have two minutes to capture the image. The ease and authenticity of the platform allows for users to have fun, not needing to worry about what is being posted as the content on there is more casual. As such, aspects such as who screenshotted, the number of retakes, hours late and much more show other users the real side of their life. I find BeReal quite enjoyable as I can see what my friends are up to while having a collection...

CS371 Icebreaker Post 1 - Isaac Cardoso

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Isaac and I am a third-year Communication Studies student here at Laurier. I feel like social media is a big part of nearly everyone's life in one way or another and I always find it interesting how it can be used in different and creative ways. In the pictures below you will see my 3 month old Corgi named Lucy. Lucy is a crazy and definitely outgoing puppy who loves other dogs and I find it fascinating that there are endless groups and social media pages for dogs and their owners. One interesting account on Facebook that we found is a Corgi group where there's a big day in Toronto designated for Corgi's where everyone brings their dog to the dog park for a big meet up. It's super interesting to me that regardless of your interests there's nearly always a group or some designated section on social media for just about anything you can think of!

CS371- Blog Post 1 - Lauren Petrucci

Image
Hello everyone! My name is Lauren Petrucci and I am in my third year of Communication Studies here at Laurier. One of my favourite social media apps that I love to use whether it be to edit or share my photos, is VSCO. VSCO is an app that allows creators to have a variety of tools of editing and filters, which you can choose to upload publicly to your account for others to see, or you can just save it to your camera roll. What I like about VSCO compared to other social media apps such as Instagram, is that VSCO prioritizes their account towards the quality of the photos, rather than the social clout. An example being that the follower count or likes on a post are not displayed to the general public. Majority of the people who have an account on VSCO have the opportunity to post casually and display pictures that they wouldn’t normally post on a regular social media app. Not everyone has VSCO, which is another reason why I think it allows others to express themselves and post free...

Introduction Blog Post - Good News Movement Instagram Page.

Image
Hello everyone! My name is Jenna Trantau I am a third-year communications student with the management option attached to my degree. I plan on concentrating on visual communication and digital media studies. The instagram page I am introducing to you is a page called "goodnews_movement". The media is oversaturated with bad news and it creates the illusion that nothing is going right in the world. This instagram pages highlights heartwarming stories, positive environmental innovation and other general good news. It is refreshing to read someones story and it be positive and light instead of something awful happening. Although negative news should be talked about it is nice to hear stories like the CEO of Patagonia giving away his fortune to help combat climate change. This is how I believe social media should be used.  Link to instagram page : https://www.instagram.com/goodnews_movement/?hl=en

Blog #1-Kalessy Keyes- CS371

Image
Hey everyone! My name is Kalessy Keyes and I am a third year communications student. I use a variety of social media platforms daily but one of my favourites is definitely BeReal. BeReal is a social media platform which sends all of its users a notification to "BeReal" a a random time each day and you have two minutes to take a photo of what you are doing right then in order for it to be considered on time. These notifications only happen once every 24 hours which I find helpful as it is not a social media platform that requires a lot of time spent on it.  Late posts are still accepted but in order to view other peoples posts your have to post one yourself. This in my opinion is ideal as it does not let people participate in viewing other people photos until they take one of their own. Something that does not exist on other social media platforms such as instagram and facebook.  You can also only view peoples photos who are friends with you so it is more personal, and there i...

CS371 Blog Post #1 - Ashley Pirillo

Image
Hi! My name is Ashley and I am in Communication Studies minoring in Mathematics. For the past two years I have been apart of a Golden Retriever Facebook Group. Facebook is probably my least used social media application but when I do go on, I am greeted by numerous pictures of Golden Retrievers. Ironically speaking, I don’t even own a Golden Retriever, let alone any dog. A ll those years of asking Santa for a puppy were for nothing!  I will forever be dramatic and tell my parents they deprived my sister and I of a pet while we were growing up so I think that is why I felt compelled to join this group. I get to see people making memories with their dogs and do all the things that I wanted to do as a child. Plus, who doesn’t love to see pictures of puppies? Instant mood booster!

Giunta- Blog Post 1

Image
Hello class, my name is Nick Giunta. I am a third-year communication student and looking forward to participating in this class forum. As for this discussion post, there are a lot of social media accounts and outlets that I follow that interest me. The one in particular that I keep up with the most is "Cooking with Darryl". This summer, in particular, I really tried to enhance my cooking ability. This Instagram page does a good job of connecting with the viewer so that the recipes are easy to follow at home. Some cooking accounts make it difficult to follow as they do not take into account the accessibilities of the viewer. This account specifically, made me learn a lot of new techniques about cooking while also keeping me engaged with humorous content. For example, for my birthday I wanted to cook a two-inch tomahawk steak but I did not know how to cook it. So I scrolled through his posts and saw that he posted how to cook a tomahawk medium rare. I followed his easy steps an...

CS371 Icebreaker Post - Alicia Max

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Alicia Max and I'm a third-year Communications student. A social media platform that I find interesting is Spotify.  Spotify is a streaming platform that allows you to stream music and podcasts. While the ability to stream anything I want instantly is excellent, the main reason I like Spotify is the extra features, some of these features include playlists with new music weekly, playlists that are curated by genre of the music that you listen to, podcast and artist recommendations, as well as one of Spotify's latest features called Blend. Blend is a playlist that curates a mix of your and your friend's music. This is done through sending a one-time invitation to your friends, once your friends have accepted, Spotify blends your music together with songs that many of you listen to, as well as songs only one of you listens to. Blend playlists also update daily allowing you to hear new songs that your friends are listening to. Blend allows yo...

Blog post #1- Misra

Image
Hello folks, My name is Neil and I am a fourth-year communication student. I love learning about social media and what it says about popular and sub-cultures. My favorite platform is Instagram, and what I really find interesting is how it has turned into a marketplace for small-business owners. A good friend of mine has caught onto the trend of re-selling vintage clothing and started his own business reselling clothing. Check it out!

CS371 Blogger Icebreaker- Elizabeth Kvil

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth Kvil but I usually go by Lizzy :) I am a fourth year communications major. I really enjoy watching true crime on YouTube. My favourite channel that makes the best true crime content (in my opinion) is Bella Fiori. Every time I wanna learn about a new case I find myself always watching her videos. She has a very calm voice and I can always keep up with the facts that she mentions throughout the video. She always picks the best cases to talk about and that's why I usually chose her over the other true crime creators. She was one of the youtubers that got me into watching true crime as well.  Here is the link to her youtube channel if you wanna check it out :) https://www.youtube.com/c/bellafiori

CS371 - Ice Breaker

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Andie Young and I am in my 4th year of Communications Studies here at Laurier. To be entirely honest, it was difficult for me to decide what to write about for this blog post. Like all of you, I am continually discovering new social media accounts, playlists, and videos that I love. Having said that, if I had to pick just one thing on social media right now, it would definitely be the account @laurahfritz on TikTok. Laura, a mother of two, uses this account to share brief videos of her daughter Lena, who is arguably one of the cutest and funniest three-year-old kids. I constantly end up on this account when I do find myself exploring TikTok because it genuinely makes me laugh out loud.  If you want to see what I am talking about, and have a couple laughs, here is the link to the TikTok account:  https://www.tiktok.com/@laurahfritz?lang=en

CS 371 Blog post 1 SIERRA

Image
My name is Sierra Anderson and a social media platform that I find very interesting is BeReal. BeReal is a social media app where users post 1 unposed and unfiltered picture at a random time every day. This app recently rose to popularity and its users, myself included, look forward to receiving the daily BeReal notification. The purpose of this concept is to encourage social media users to post realistic pictures of their lives in real time. One of the reasons I think this app is so popular is because it is unlike any other social media app on the market. We are so used to seeing those perfectly posed Instagram photos that are often layered with filters or editing and only highlight the fun parts of someone's life. However, for most people, our day-to-day lives do not mirror our social media posts. I think this app has had a positive impact on many users and made people less self-conscious about what they post on social media. I have also noticed that other apps such as Instagram,...

CS371: Ice Breaker- Be Real- Abbegayle Zwep

Image
Hi Everyone!  My name is Abbegayle Zwep and I am a third-year communication studies major.  One app that I enjoy using is Be Real.  The app that was originally created in 2020 became popular in the last few months and is built off the idea of being real on social media and not just posting at times you are doing something worthy of posting.  The app sends off a notification at a different time every day and as users, you are supposed to post exactly what you are doing at that time.  You have a 2-minute window to post your photo or your photo becomes time stamped and says how late you are.  The app takes a photo using the front camera and the back camera at the same time, you are unable to upload from your camera roll.  Also, you are unable to view others' posts until you post your own and you can see how many retakes a person does on their post.  Then you can then react and comment on your friends' posts. The reason I like the app so much i...

CS371 Blog Post #1 - TikTok Icebreaker - By Sarah Humphreys

Image
CS371 Blog Icebreaker (TikTok) - By Sarah Humphreys Hello! My name is Sarah Humphreys, and I am a third year Communication Studies student, with a minor in Education and North American Studies. I utilize various social media platforms daily, and my favourite platforms would include, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and TikTok. I love these platforms as I can explore an abundance of interests, including fashion trends, healthy lifestyle accounts, and workout routines. The platform I favour the most is TikTok as you can quickly absorb convenient content when time is limited. TikTok produces short and snappy videos, and I find my algorithm to be very accurate in showcasing my interests. A particular TikTok account that I find compelling is @movementwithjulie ( https://www.tiktok.com/@movementwithjulie?lang=en ), this account focuses on showcasing workout routines that target different muscles, and each video is conveniently labelled so you can find the desired workout you are looking for in...

CS371 - Blog Icebreaker

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Gabrielle Craievich and I am a fourth year Communications Studies student specializing in Digital Media with a Digital Design option and a User Experience Design Minor. In short, my interests consist of fashion, sports, food and entertainment. I would say that I am both introverted and extraverted, and am an active social media user that enjoys exploring various applications. The most frequently used applications that I surf daily would be Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. A common attribute that these three applications share that sparks my interest is their short clips or images that can range from a number of topics and categories. While these three applications do have their varying unique entertainment qualities, my favourite platform is TikTok. Based on my algorithm, the content generated is geared towards my interests such as it being relatable, funny, or aesthetically pleasing allowing for an effortless experience. Comparing this platform to Pinterest and...

CS 371 Ice Breaker - McLeod

Image
Hello, my name is Connor McLeod and I am a 4th-year communication studies student. I use many different social media platforms but the one I have been using the most often recently is Twitter. Especially scrolling through a Twitter account by the name @would_it_dong. Would it dong is a Twitter account which is run by an automated bot that analyzes home runs in the MLB. It checks the home run's distance, height and speed to decipher whether it would be a home run in every ballpark. The account then posts which ballparks it would have been a home run in. Being such a big baseball fan, I look at this account even when I am not watching that game. This account definitely takes up most of my time recently and single-handedly accounts for my twitter usage.

CS371 Blog Post 1 - Instagram - Lucca Maggiolo

Image
Hello everyone! My name is Lucca Maggiolo and I am currently a fourth year Communications student with a minor in Leadership. When it comes to picking my favorite online social media platform, I would have to say I enjoy scrolling through Instagram the most. One Instagram page I enjoy scrolling through is called archdigest. I have a passion for interior design and taking note on what I would like my future home to look like.     As a lot of people lose track of time when they are on the platform Tik Tok, I find myself in this common theme while scrolling through archdigest Instagram page. As many of us know how to navigate Instagram, I enjoy viewing the comments regarding people's input on the designs as it displays what is currently trending or not. I also enjoy using the Instagram feature that allows you to save photos. This comes in hand once I come across a photo of a design that I like so that I can save it and come back to it later. Since I am on...

CS371 Ice Breaker- BeReal - Victoria Sordi

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Victoria Sordi. I'm a fourth year Sociology major with a minor in Communication Studies. I am an advent user of many social media platforms, however the one I find myself enjoying the most recently is a newer app known as BeReal. I find that on a lot of social media platforms many people filter what they post in order to be "aesthetic," including myself which is why I enjoy using BeReal. On BeReal you get a notification every 24 hours and have two minutes to capture a picture using your front camera, and rear camera of what you are doing in that moment. Personally, I love how people must essentially be real on the platform because they only have two minutes to capture their posts, which leads to them not thinking about the picture looking good or if it is aesthetically pleasing. It is interesting to see what your friends are up to throughout the day, because you realize that no one is ever doing the same thing which adds excitement. Additionally, t...

CS 371 Blog Post #1- Mahaila Milne

Image
Something that I find interesting about social media and the internet universe is apple music's made for you playlists and the "stations for you" that it creates and suggests based on your previous added and played songs. It creates your own personal "station" filled with songs that are by artists you like and music genres you also enjoy. I enjoy listening to music any chance I get and for me this is a very handy option that I like to listen to often. Personally, sometimes I can get bored of my own playlists and love that apple music curates playlists for you based on bands and artists that you have previously liked. This is also a good way to find new songs you may not have already heard and grow your tastes in music. I find it really interesting that apple music has the ability to make your own personal playlists simply based on the data they have collected from you previously.

CS371 Blog Post 1: Ice Breaker

Image
Hey everyone. My name is Crisilla and I am a fourth-year Communication Studies student! Like the majority of us, I regularly use a variety of social media sites, but lately I've been spending a lot of time browsing in search of useful content that would benefit myself in one of my more recent interests. I joined a gym around a year ago when I started taking exercise much more seriously, and I have consistently gone there 4-5 times each week this year. Although, when I first started going, I felt self-conscious because I was the "newbie" and didn't know how to use all the equipment. I also didn't know how to execute correct form for my safety as well as so that I wouldn't embarrass myself, and didn't even know what kind of workout routines I should do to see results. Thankfully, throughout the numerous hours I spent scrolling through Tik Tok, I discovered a number of thorough, useful videos on working out that have helped me with all of my questions, improv...

Ice Breaker - The World of Playlists - Pooja Sharma

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Pooja! I wanted to introduce you all to my favourite time of year. Below I have shared my autumn playlist . Each year on Spotify, I curate an autumn playlist that holds all the captivating feelings of the season and a glimpse of the way I perceive the autumn months. My playlists adopt a personality and emotion that determines the music they will hold. For me, it is a compelling collection that provides positive feelings.  Music has the ability to collect individuals who share similar experiences and ideas about their worlds. It is a medium that creates a culture of its own, a platform where individuals situate themselves to understand everyday lives. It is interesting that through shared truth about autumn or any other topic that music raises, there can be a sense of utopia. The title of leaves, coffee, leather, crisp, warm, home, followed by several emojis, are used to outline what feelings the playlist can be associated with and establish a com...

CS371 Blog Post 1 - Vanessa Bruzzese

Image
Hey there! My name is Vanessa Bruzzese and I'm a third year communications student with an option in social entrepreneurship and a minor in global studies. As I am completing an option in social entrepreneurship, I love the idea of supporting small businesses which is something consumers can do through social media. An example of a small business that I support through Instagram is a jewelry business called Bling by Browne. The owner produces handmade, trendy jewelry that is reasonably priced that targets a university aged market. That being said, I truly think that social media is a great way to advertise for small businesses as it is typically rather inexpensive and a great way to reach different demographics of consumers. In my opinion, supporting small businesses is a really good way to become a sustainable consumer as these small businesses are not producing on mass levels and so, not only are they better for the environment but the products you receive are often put together...

CS 371 Blog Post #1

Hello everyone,       To me, the way music is dispersed throughout media platforms is something that I find extremely compelling about the online world. The amount of music that gets to find their place on different platforms is truly captivating, especially to those who are musically inclined. Social media allows for artists to relay their songs or music talent which helps them increase their audience and listeners. Tiktok, for instance, is a great platform where artists can use short clips of their music as a sound for others to post videos to. In many cases, tiktok sounds begin to trend, thus, artists music can be a part of trends even by flunk.      What I favour most about music in the social media world is the fact that Apple Music and Spotify profiles can be shared and followed amongst individuals. This has allowed me to create my own music playlists to share with my friends and vice versa. These things are essential to those who love music. Tha...

CS 371 - Blog Post #1 (Colby Harrison)

Hi everyone, my name is Colby Harrison and I am a 4th year communication studies student. The online or virtual world absolutely fascinates me, the benefit it has presented to sectors such as communication, entertainment, and creativity within our world but also the consequences of our extreme dependence on this pervasive platform. I have been off Tik-Tok for about 2 years now so yes I am better than you guys (this is a joke btw), but YouTube is a love of mine. YouTube has developed and changed rapidly over the course of my lifetime and it's been so interesting to see the various forms the platform takes. Going from a simple platform for video creators to becoming the industrial machine of content creation that it is today.        I still love the small, unique content creators that the platform still has. People from all corners of the world who are attempting to create a following through their chosen craft. One of my favourite youtubers at...

Hello everyone! My name is Erika Perlini, I am a third year communications student. One thing I absolutely love is listening to music. I love exploring different genres like pop, soft rock, r&b, rap, rock and roll and probably my all time favourite; country! My summer playlists consists of Morgan Wallen on repeat. I listen to music while studying, doing laundry, working out, doing any type of task really. Sharing different song vibes with friends and playing any music guessing game is always a good time and a great way to break the ice. So for this ice breaker post I wanted to share one of my favourite internet site platforms called Heardle! Based on the popular game Wordle, Heardle is a spin off of the puzzle guessing game however using music. The game tasks listeners to guess the song playing by only hearing a couple seconds of the intro. It can be more challenging at time's than you think! The thing I love the most about Heardle is that it's a new song everyday from any...

Hello everyone, my name is Zoe McLaven, I am a 3rd-year student studying communications. I am a person who enjoys listening to music whenever I can, whether it's when I'm in my room, walking to class, or hanging with my friends; it is something I do daily. Since I enjoy music, I love to explore Apple Music playlists and view the specific amenities to offer. One playlist that has helped me over the years in University are study playlist. These playlists select random soothing songs that create an atmosphere of focus once played. They have allowed me to stay driven on my work and helped me study for exams. Studying can seem very daunting, but this playlist is another resource to help me perform my best and not feel overwhelmed; as stated in the playlist description, "excellent mood setter." I find it truly interesting that music platforms can cater to everyone's needs through a playlist for all types of occasions. In addition, it creates a more efficient way fo...

CS 371 - Blog Post One - Rebekah Krofchick

Hi everyone! My name is Rebekah, and I am a third-year communications studies student. There are several things within the online universe that I find quite interesting, some of which have already been mentioned. I thought I'd highlight something that is a part of an online community that I subscribe to, and that is the true crime realm of the internet. Specifically, I've decided to highlight the website WebSleuths on an online forum that facilitates discourse around real cases of crime or criminal events. Here is the link:  websleuths.com/forums/   I think WebSleuths is a very interesting example of the discourse found online because the content on WebSleuths can be considered both destructive and productive. The purpose of the site is for regular people to act as sort of "armchair detectives" and give their opinion on crimes, criminals, law enforcement, criminal procedures, and more. While there has been some helpful information posted to this site, it can be very d...

Hello everyone, my name is Owen Lane and I'm a 4th year communication studies student in my last semester. I am an avid shoe fan and collector, which is why I follow a custom show designer on Instagram by the name of @chefhuyle ( https://www.instagram.com/chefhuyle/ ). This user takes original shoes and puts his own twist on them and then sells them through his account and website. What I find so interesting about this account is that you won't find any other pairs of shoes that are like the ones he customizes; he makes many different colours ways that have unique twists. What really caught my attention to his account were the Jordan 1 Low Fragment which are one of my favourites. Recently he has been working on Nike dunks which have caught my eye. Another thing I love about this account is that he not only posts these shoes but also outfits to wear with them which I find very convenient and interesting. Although while being a broke student, I somehow find a way to feed my addi...

Cs 371 - blog post #1 - Kim Browne

Image
Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Browne, and I'm a 3rd-year communications student! I love music and think Spotify stands out from every other music platform. I make many playlists and can find different songs with some of the features that Spotify has. Discovery weekly is a Spotify-generated playlist that releases 30 songs every week based on your music taste. Another feature called "go to radio" plays similar songs to the one you're currently playing, and when I'm making my playlists, the "enhanced" feature adds similar ones to your playlist. I find it funny that there's a constant argument between people choosing the two major streaming platforms, Apple Music, versus Spotify. However, because of these features, being able to see friends' listening activity and the app's clean layout, I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. If you like making playlists and finding new music/genres, consider making Spotify your new music platform!

Hi everyone my name is Jennifer Athan. I'm a third-year communications major. I follow many people across multiple social media platforms but I think one account I follow the most right now is Colleen Hoover on Tik Tok. Similar to many people, Colleen's book “It ends with us” was trending all over my Tik Tok page. Because of Tik Tok and all the discussion about this book I was interested to see what it was about so I bought it. Since then I have read many of her books and followed her Tik Tok for new updates. She will post about new books that are coming out specifically “It begins with us” the sequel to “It ends with us” and she also gives updates on the new movie coming out based on this same book. Although a lot of her books came out a long time ago, such as her most trending book “It ends with us” which came out in 2016. I feel like because of Tik Tok trends her books have gotten a lot more attention over this past year. I was never that familiar with her until her books we...

CS371 Blog Post 1- Sydney Fried

Hi everyone! My name is Sydney. To break the ice, I wanted to share a social media app that I recently downloaded called Goodreads. In a very short amount of time, Goodreads has become one of my favourite apps since I started reading this past summer. I got Goodreads to track the books I am reading and to connect with my friends on the app who also love reading. In addition, the app allows you to view other people's profiles and see what they are currently reading and books they have read in the past.  Goodreads is a handy app that allows you to search any book, read its synopsis, give recommendations based on what you've already read and even see what other people worldwide thought of the book. I found this to be very useful and comforting as a new reader because it allowed me to decide whether I wanted to read a specific book or not based on other users' comments and ratings. On the app, you can add your friends, view what they are reading, or have read and their personal...
